In less than a month I am running the London Marathon to raise money for action for children

I have never run anything near a marathon before, and this is a massive thing for me to do.

Please please please donate online via my page, even if it is just a £1 or $1!

Plankton are, by definition, aquatic organisms that cannot swim against a current. Some species termed meroplankton are only planktonic for a short period of their life cycle, usually in early larval stages as they drift among currents. This is somewhat common in crustaceans like crabs and lobsters. In this micrograph, molted shells from an early crustaceous plankton glow under UV light.

Happy Halloween!
This fluorescently labeled cell had a spooky face drawn onto it using a technique called “laser photo ablation”, and from now on this is exactly how I will be imagining all cancer cells.

Phyllodes imperialis smithersi

—-

Commonly referred to as the “skull caterpillar”, pictured is the larval form of the pink underwing moth, an endangered species which inhabits eastern parts of Australia.

Its “face” is a set of markings meant to ward off predators. However, these markings give it the unsettling appearance of having a bloated, long face, with massive eyes and rows of teeth.
